Remembering 2020: Spring Porch Project

My last blog entry was in February 2020 which certainly feels like a life-time ago. I have been busy taking photos and spending A LOT of time with my kids. When lock-down began in March, photographers across the country started taking “porch photos” to document families right outside their homes. The trend was hugely popular and many photographers donated some of their proceeds to local charities. I donated to two organizations: MEND (a hunger relief organization here in NJ) and FLAG, a front-line appreciation group in South Orange/Maplewood NJ.

My porch project photos celebrated families being together during the pandemic. I got to document a variety of milestones-from first birthday drive-by’s to first time riding a bike to the new family dog-and it was cathartic for me to witness people experience joy and love during such a challenging, scary time. I hope you enjoy these selects from my porch project. Stay safe.

Reflections on 2019 Family Portraits

Each January, I reflect on the past year and simply can't stop smiling.  Here I've captured a selection of my 2019 Family Portrait Sessions.  Some families have been with me for years, and I feel like I've watched their little ones grow up.  While with others, we've just started working together and I've had the joy of getting to know their family's own special spark.

Pretty in Pink

Here’s a recap of some of my family portrait sessions this Spring. I love the clothing coordination with the spring trees. My new location discovery was the Cherry Blossom Festival at Branch Brook Park in Newark. Amazing spot for visiting and for photos!

It's that time of year: Fall family photos!

Fall is a classic time of year for family portrait sessions. It makes sense, as everyone is back into a routine and holiday cards are just around the corner. What I truly love about fall portraits are the colors, the crisp air, the cozy sweaters, and the smiles. Enjoy your fall. Play in the leaves. Make memories. If you'd like to schedule a portrait session, please fill out the contact page on my website.

First Birthday Portrait + Party

First birthdays are a milestone for the parents as much as the babies - it's a true accomplishment. Sleep gets better, communication emerges, and first steps are taken. I recently took these first year birthday photos at the family's apartment and roof deck in NYC.  All the details were filled with love including a homemade hot air balloon. The happiest of birthdays to Miles!

Photographing your Newest Edition

There's nothing like the first few weeks. It's a complete joy for me to capture the expressions, interactions, and pure love that the littlest ones bring to a family. My favorite prop: the sibling. Enjoy!

Fall Family Portraits

School is back in session, some cooler days are here, and I've seen quite a few posts about pumpkin spice. It's nearly fall and a beautiful time for family portraits. Any location works in the fall...backyards, a nature trail, urban back drops. They all bring out the hues and gorgeous light of the season. Here are a few photos from 2016 to inspire.

Looking Back: Jersey Shore Family Portrait

Now that the winter cold is finally here, it makes me daydream about warmer days. This past summer I photographed a crew of cute kids at the Jersey Shore on a perfect, summer day. The five kids are cousins and it was really fun to document them candidly playing together on the beach. The cousin and sibling love shines bright in these photos. Stay warm!

A Playdate with Marlo, Theo + Rae

When the cold weather arrives, I usually bring my family portrait sessions inside. I actually really enjoy photographing families in their homes because I get to see their world and experience how the kids live and play. I had the opportunity this fall to photograph three adorable kids in my town. Twins Theo and Marlo and their little sister Rae had recently moved into a new home and they were very proud to show me their new bedrooms and playroom. I mostly did candid photos of them playing with their toys and hanging out. With a chalkboard wall, mini grand piano, and kid's ukulele, it felt like a really fun playdate!

Family of 4 in Maplewood, NJ

This fall I photographed friends from my synagogue at the beautiful Memorial Park in Maplewood. Big brother Theo was not interested in standing still for many photos, but I've yet to meet a two year old that didn't share this sentiment! However, the photos are so sweet and candid and the love everyone has for little Vera can not be contained.

Hear ye, Hear ye: the brand new website has arrived!

After several months of brainstorming, contemplating designs, culling photos, my new website has arrived and I’m so happy to share it with you. The site showcases my recent wedding and family portraiture work and includes a new design, logo, and branding. I owe a special thanks to Kristi Drago-Price of Editor’s Edge (former photo editor at Brides Magazine) for assisting me in finding my best photos and helping me understand my brand and what differentiates my work from other photographers. Another round of thanks goes to Brooke Boiling at Firecracker Studios for coming up with the logo, design and branding for the site. It was so much fun to work with her on the design process and I’m so grateful for her beautiful work. Please take a look at the new website and thanks so much for your support and interest in my photography! It is truly a labor of love.

XO Kristine
